The time has come...
Every so often I feel it is my duty to remind everyone of the greatest single-game record ever. Now, most of you have a name in mind already that you either think or are positively sure will be the owner of said record. Remember, we're talking the greatest single-game record ever, which, and I hope you would agree, rules out any record that is shared.
So, what is it and who did it? Jordan? nope. His Airness' only single-game records are about free throws made (20 at halftime) and consecutive points scored (23). Chamberlain's 100 points in 1 game? nope. It's impressive, don't get me wrong, but I'm one of the few that think Chamberlain was just physically ahead of his time, and not as skilled as his stats make him seem. Then it's gotta be Gretzy, right? Sorry, James. The Great One has sole possession of only one single-game record (assists-7).
I was actually quite surprised by that last fact, but not nearly as surprised as when I first learned that Lisa Leslie (yes, LISA LESLIE of the WNBA, holds the greatest single-game record ever, of any sport) scored 101 points in a high school game against South Torrance.... in the first half. Even though it's typed and you can just read it again, I'm gonna type it again: She scored 101 points in the first half of a high school basketball game... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! The record for a full game is 105 points held by Cheryl Miller. Why didn't Lisa Leslie break the record if she was so good? Cause the other team gave up at halftime.
I think you need to take a second and think about this statistic. What are the lengths of their quarters? 8 minutes? Yes, if you ran up and down a court for 16 minutes doing lay-ups, you should make it to 101, but it depends if you need to have a cigarette in between (ahh, Angel, as Josh Warren put it, you are our Beacon of Health).
So girls, the next time your with a bunch of guys who are talkin sports and you wanna shut them up, now you have something to say. All you owe me is 2 hours.
To Female Readers: By reading this post you have agreed to service it's writer for a duration of 2 hours, but don't worry, most likely he won't need the whole 2 hours, that's what I've heard at least.... whatever, I'm not 18 anymore, I got nothin to prove. I mean, if you really want 2 hours I can do it, but I promise you it won't be any fun.
